We are committed as a congregation to seeing the Christian Faith shared and experienced in a real and meaningful way in both our local community and in other areas whether within Ireland or beyond.

Hello, my name is William Workman and I work for the Irish Mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.  I am originally from Ballymoney, County Antrim but have been living just outside Athy, County Kildare for the past 25 years. I worked in Londonderry for three years when I first joined the mission. The Rev. Stephen Rea is the minister of Carlow and Athy congregations.  I attend Athy church and help out as much as possible in both churches although most of my work is in the local community.

I organise a summer outreach each summer in Carlow and Athy which includes Holiday Bible Clubs and meetings for teenagers and adults.  This past summer in Carlow 40 children attended our Holiday Bible Club in a community hall and in the church there were three theme evenings based around food of different countries.  Approximately 150 people attended each of these evenings which Rev. Rea spoke at.  In Athy we had 80 children at our Holiday Bible Club and the evenings were based around sports.  Numbers were smaller with 30 at our indoor bowling evening. A team from Birmingham, Alabama, USA joined local people in running these events.

The programme for this autumn is a Christian book stall in Athy open air market on Tuesday’s. On Wednesday evenings I meet with a small group of young adults which involves crafts, cooking, games and a short Bible message. On Friday there is a Bible club for children in Athy at 4pm and another one in Carlow at 6pm.  Both of these are held in community halls with the help of local people. I help out with a local youth club in Athy after the children’s meetings. On the first Sunday of the month I have a Fellowship Meeting in the youth centre in the evening and on the other Sunday evenings it takes the form of a Bible study.  We are study the Old Testament book of Joel this autumn. The rest of my time is spent in preparation, visitation, one to one Bible studies, working at the church and occasionally I preach at a morning service.

This is a brief summary of the work I am involved in and I would encourage you to pray for this work. If you would like to keep up to date with what is happening you can get my News Letter from John Workman in Dungannon church or email me at wnworkman@gmail.com.
